Hello Nerds and Nerdettes!
It’s been an exciting start to the year with the new semester, writing, reading, and somewhat losing my mind. True, I may have lost it a long time ago, but there was always one little piece I kept to reminisce over the times my mind and I had together. The last few months may have taken that little bit away as well leaving me completely chaotic and unorganized – at least to other people. To myself I know exactly what I’m doing and where everything should be. Just because my desk looks like a clutter filled mess doesn’t mean I don’t know where everything is and belongs. It’s true for the most part. Every so often I’ll find a random sticky note to myself under a large stack of papers. Most of the times that task the sticky note was meant to remind me of hasn’t yet been completed. Whoops.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. I’ve been reading a few at once, which of course slows me down. Most were for lit class. Writes of Spring will be coming around later this month and the author of The Book of Night Women, Marlon James, will be attending and speaking. So I’ll get to meet him and have the book signed. The Book of Night Women tells of Lilith, a slave born on a Jamaican sugar cane plantation. It’s a legacy of resistance novel. It’s intense, gripping, and there’s more than one occasion where the sheer reality that most of things occurred during slavery makes the reader cringe and their heartache for the people on the pages. Marlon James has weaved together a beautiful, heartbreaking story. Sometimes it’s hard to read the next word, but you never want to put the story down.
After Write’s of Spring I’ll post more information here, along with how things went his speech. I’m actually working the event, and I’m hoping to come up with a list of questions for him. I’ll be there for all three days so I’ll be picking his brain as much as I can.
In the mean time I’m still editing! I’ve received over 100 likes on Facebook! That’s something! So, in order to celebrate that fact I’m going to post either a short story or an excerpt of Blood Moon. I haven’t decided which yet. It’ll be up within the next few days. As I’m on Spring Break my days have been reduced to reading, writing, editing, and tanning (or right now burning) by the pool.
In the mean time, dear readers, I do have a question for you, and I’m curious as to which you prefer and why.
